International Responsible Business Conduct
Society increasingly expects companies to take responsibility for every aspect of their production and supply chains. This requires joining forces and cooperating with other stakeholders. A joint approach makes it possible to tackle abuses collectively and therefore we participate in International Responsible Business Conduct Agreement for the Metals Sector.
Safety and the environment are high on the agenda. The aim is to be ‘best in class” in the aluminum industry. Great commitment is shown to ensure compliance with all laws and regulations in this area. Concern for the environment always plays an important role in our decision making. We continuously strive to improve the results by regularly evaluating and improving our business.
Century Aluminum Vlissingen B.V. is proud to announce that we are actively working with several organisations to promote international responsible business conduct and address severe negative impact to people and the environment connected to the metals supply chains which we would otherwise not be able to tackle on our own. This multi-stakeholder collaboration is through the International Responsible Business Conduct Agreement for the Metals Sector, and also enables us to contribute to realising the UN Sustainable Development Goals as well. The other participants in the collaboration include companies, the government, industry associations, NGOs and trade unions.
Policy Century Aluminum
Responsible Business Conduct is an integral part of the policy of Century Aluminum Vlissingen. This has been described in our safety policy:
“Socially Responsible Business Management is one of the cornerstones of our corporate strategy. As a company, Century Aluminum Vlissingen wants to play a role in economic, ecological and social developments.”
Metals supply chains
Metals are essential for the production of many goods and technologies and are crucial for the low-carbon transition.
Our sister company Norðurál in Iceland produces world’s greenest aluminum!
Century Aluminum Vlissingen expects and demands from its suppliers and business partners that they have or develop policies to ensure that their entire chains comply with the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and the guiding principles for business and human rights of the United Nations (UN).
