Century Aluminum Vlissingen B.V. produces anodes that are used in the aluminium making process at our sister company in Iceland, Norðurál.

Norðurál produces low-carbon aluminium: Natur-Al™. The total CO₂ footprint of Natur-Al™ is four tonnes per tonne aluminum – one of the lowest CO₂ footprints in the world for aluminum and less than one-quarter of the industry average.  You can download the Natur-Al™ Factsheet here.

To achieve these levels requires strict adherence to the highest standards in the sourcing of bauxite and alumina, the exclusive use of energy from 100% renewable sources, and seamless operation of the reduction processes.

Norðurál is certified by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Standard which defines environmental, social and governance principles, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminum value chain.
